NEWS

Thanks to all our funders!

When we started Rye Youth Zone, we had not anticipated the amount of funding we would need to set up and run a youth club. It is not only about buying a few bits of equipment, we have had to plan for the cost of insurance, accommodation, training, DBS checks,...

RYZ is opening on 22nd February, come and join us!

We are so excited to announce that we are now ready to open! Rye Youth Zone will be offering a Saturday Club every Saturday at Tilling Green Community Centre (rooms 2 and 3) 4-6pm, starting from 22nd February. Do come and join us! And do not forget to ask your parent...

Thank you to Jodie and family

Jodie Phillips and her family and friends raised an incredible £491.91 for Rye Youth Zone (RYZ) at their Halloween Charity Event. We wanted to say a very big thank you, what a fantastic community we live in!

A Word

From Our Founders

“Young people will shape tomorrow’s world… We hope to help them on this journey, with a place to make friends, have fun, get support, learn, join in to create a better future together.“

Sophie Thorpe and Caroline Drummond, Directors and Founders Rye Youth Zone CIC

YOU DO YOU!

There will be activities on offer but if all you want to do is come and sit on your phone, alongside friends while chatting and  just being together then that is what you can do!

No pressure to take part

INSURED, SUPPORTED & TRAINED

As an organisation, we have sought and gained the support of many relevant bodies, from the local police and schools to the council and others.

To ensure that users of RYZ are safe, all staff have current Enhanced DBS certification and have undertaken and achieved various trainings from First Aid to Safeguarding and more.

“I hugely welcome the RYZ (Rye Youth Zone) – to my mind the most important and exciting development in Rye in the last decade. It is many years since there was a dedicated Youth Club in our town and hopefully RYZ plugs a big gap in our community. And while our schools offer some after school clubs not everyone in Rye goes to these schools, so RYZ engages with and serves a wider group of youth who live in Rye but are educated elsewhere.

The founders – Councillor Sophie Thorpe and Caroline Drummond – are to be congratulated for spotting the gap and rather than waiting for someone else to do something about it, got on with it and have worked tirelessly to make it happen.
Their early engagement with the youth of Rye lead to the name RYZ. And they have also engaged with other groups, such as the Cricket, Football and Rugby clubs, so that they can all operate in tandem and provide complementary activities. The founders have also worked hard to set up a team of adult volunteers and some paid professionals to run RYZ.
RYZ is now up and running, but it has further exciting developments in the pipeline including moving into the old Boys Club in Mermaid Street, which, having languished largely empty and unused for some years,  is being refurbished in order to make it ‘the place to be’ for Rye’s youth.
On behalf of the town I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been and is involved in RYZ and I wish it every success that it deserves to have!”
Cllr Andy Stuart The Right Worshipful Mayor of Rye
